Create a channel

Channels are the best way to keep conversations about various projects, topics, or teams organized in Slack. There's no limit to how many unique channels you can have in Slack — go ahead, create as many as you'd like!

Create a channel

If you have permission to create a channel follow the steps below or see how it works.

1. From your sidebar, click the plus icon next to Channels and select Create a channel.
2. Give the channel a name.
3. Add a description , choose a channel type ( public or private ), or check the box to share the channel outside of your company.
4. Click Create and add people to the channel , or click Skip for now .
   

1. Tap the Home tab at the bottom of your screen.
2. Tap the plus icon next to Channels.
3. Choose Create Channel.
4. Enter a channel name.
5. Add a description to let others know what the channel is about.
6. If you'd like, tap the toggle to make the channel private.
7. Tap Create in the top-right corner to finish.

1. Tap the Home tab at the bottom of your screen.
2. BelowChannels in your left sidebar, tap Add channel.
3. Tap the plus icon in the bottom-right corner.
4. Enter a channel name.
5. If you'd like, tap the toggle to make the channel private.
6. Tap Create in the top-right corner to finish.

How it works

Note: By default, members can create channels and Multi-Channel Guests can create private channels. Workspace Owners can change these permissions. If you can't create a channel, find a Workspace Owner and ask for help.

Who can use this feature?

• By default, members and sometimes guests
• Available on all plans
